NOBLE VETERNARY CLINIC
INTERNET PRESCRIPTION POLICY
At Noble Veterinary Clinic it is our policy to take every possible step to ensure that our patients receive the very best pharmaceutical products available. This is especially important with life-threatening illnesses such as heartworm disease.
We follow the California Veterinary Medical Association policy on filling prescriptions: as long as we have a current relationship with your pet, we will either fill prescriptions at our hospital or we will gladly provide you with a written prescription that you may have filled at another pharmacy. We will not provide prescription information to anyone or any business other than directly to you. We will not respond to phone or fax requests from internet sites.
We would like you to know several facts about internet sales before you make your decision on where you obtain medicine and products for your pet:
All major manufacturers maintain a strict policy of sales exclusively through licensed veterinarians. The only exception we are aware of is vetcentric.com. Products purchased through internet sites have been obtained by diversion of the normal supply process and/or maybe counterfeit. Pharmaceuticals manufactured and labeled for use in other countries (namely Australia) have been illegally diverted and sold through these discount providers in the United States. Counterfeit product is one of the many reasons you can obtain things cheaper on the internet. We are finding that in some cases Advantage and Frontline are not working as they should to kill fleas and ticks and there are concerns that this is because the purity of product may have been compromised by adulteration, replacement, poor storage conditions or some other mishandling. The internet pharmaceutical industry is poorly regulated.
Discount providers have been cited by the FDA and Pharmacy State Boards for violating prescribing procedures. PetMed Express (a.k.a. 1-800-PetMeds), in particular, has been fined over $100,000 by the FDA and Florida Board of Health and has been sued by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and the Texas Pharmacy Board. Previously they allowed prescriptions to be written without actual examinations which was known as the Alternative Veterinarian Program.
Product guarantees made by manufacturers are void when products are sold through non-approved channels. This means that if the medication causes a problem or does not protect against what it is meant for, then treatment provided by your veterinarian will not be compensated. This is easily verified by calling the manufacturers number on the product.. Internet pharmacies will only give you your money back.
Shipping charges, delays, mis-shipments and damaged products are several of the reasons that many clients feel that the hassles of dealing with the internet are not worth the savings.
We at Noble Vet would prefer that you consider spending your pet dollar with us who have your pets welfare primarily at heart, and we are available to answer questions and quickly assist you with any concerns you may have. If you have any questions about this policy we would be happy to provide you with further information.
